[ BO - KE - TTO ]

After purchasing the land in 2016, owners Matty and Katie spent the best part of 5 years camping under the stars, feasting on locally caught seafood, surfing the coastline, watching whales migrate with the changing of seasons and forging a strong connection with the land.

Our vision was to celebrate the beauty of the Yuraygir coastline, creating a space that could be shared, not just with our friends and family, but those who come to explore this part of the world.

The home is layered in meaning. Whether it’s a handcrafted piece of charred Shou Sugi Ban furniture or a ceramic vase collected from the owners travels. Every element carries a symbolic meaning - even the naming of the property.

Every living space and window, frames a view, and draws you into its natural surrounds. While not all entirely intentional, these spaces and moments of being lost in the view, is where the name Boketto transpired.

The English language is missing this simple, yet beautiful coined Japanese word, Boketto— the act of gazing vacantly into the distance, without intent.

THE DESIGN

Boketto’s designed to fit the landscape and maximise the experience of place. The distinct charcoal exterior, anchors the house into the landscape as it ties into the bushland behind.

Yet, despite this bold identity, Boketto – at its very core – a place of reprieve, with opportunities to embrace or retreat from the elements as desired.

There is one other nearby property located approximately 50 meters away, with Boketto perched higher up and in the contour of land. The clever positioning and direction of the building gives guests a wonderful sense of privacy and an outlook that will forever draw you in.

The owners along with local craftspeople have designed and furnished this home with care and comfort in mind.

So akin the name, Boketto..
